Picturehouse A Time Warner Company

Picturehouse acquires Celluloid Dreams’ Factotum starring Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor, Fisher Stevens and Marisa Tomei

NEW YORK, May 23, 2005 — Bob Berney, President of Picturehouse, announced today that the company has acquired all North American rights to Bent Hamer’s Factotum starring Matt Dillon, Lili Taylor, Fisher Stevens and Marisa Tomei. The film premiered at the recent Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews and Picturehouse is aiming for a 2006 release.

Based on the novel by cult author Charles Bukowski and adapted by Hamer and Jim Stark, Factotumis the story of a man living on the edge; of a writer willing to risk everything to make sure his life is his poetry. Henry Chinaski (Dillon) works in factories and warehouses to support what he really wants to do: drink, bet the horses, take up with women as rootless as he is and, above all write stories no one wants to publish. Factotum is produced by Jim Stark (Coffee & Cigarettes, Night on Earth) and Hamer.

“In Factotum, Matt Dillon brings a great sense of humor to the role. The whole ensemble, including Lili Taylor, Fisher Stevens and Marisa Tomei, leaves you smiling,” said Berney. “Norwegian director Bent Hamer did a wonderful job with the film; the Scandinavian attitude works great with the Bukowski material.”

“We have found the right home for Factotum,” said Stark. “It’s a great feeling to know that Picturehouse ‘gets’ the film and I am sure they will take great care in releasing it.”

The deal was brokered on behalf of Picturehouse by Sara Rose, Senior VP Acquisitions Picturehouse and Carolyn Blackwood, Senior VP Business and Legal Affairs for New Line Cinema and on behalf of the film by the United Talent Agency, Celluloid Dreams and producer, director Bent Hamer and producer Jim Stark.

Picturehouse is a company that is the product of two leaders of the entertainment community – HBO and New Line Cinema. Launched in April 2005, upcoming releases include Don Argott’s crowd-pleasing documentary Rock School; Gus Van Sant’s Last Days; Arie Posen’s directorial debut The Chumscrubber starring Glen Close, Rita Wilson, Jamie Bell and Ralph Fiennes; Paul Reiser’s The Thing About My Folks starring Peter Falk; and Steven Shainberg’s Fur, which recently began production and stars Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr.
